Matting Season Is Here!
As temperatures rise and summer activities pick up, we officially enter what groomers call “Matting Season.”
Swimming, sprinklers, humidity, harnesses, shedding undercoats, and even regular playtime can quickly turn small tangles into painful mats, especially for doodles, curly coats, double coats, long-haired pets, and even cats.
Throughout the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing tips and information to help you better understand matting, why it happens, and how to help keep your pet comfortable all season long.

What Exactly Is Matting?
Mats develop when hair becomes tangled and tightly intertwined, forming dense clumps within the coat.
This can involve loose, shedding hair as well as continuously growing coat (including non-shedding breeds), along with trapped oils, dirt, and moisture.
Without regular grooming and maintenance, these tangles tighten over time, pulling against the skin and creating discomfort.
As mats progress, they can:
• Pull tightly on the skin with movement
• Cause constant discomfort or sensitivity
• Trap moisture, oils, and bacteria against the skin
• Increase risk of sores, irritation, hot spots, or infection
• Restrict airflow and circulation to the skin
• Hide sores, bumps, or parasites
• Lead to excessive licking, scratching, or chewing due to discomfort
Matting is more than a cosmetic issue, it can directly affect your pet’s comfort, mobility, and overall wellbeing.

Why We Take Matting Seriously
One of the most common things we hear is:
“He only has a few tangles.”
Unfortunately, small tangles can tighten surprisingly quickly, especially during the summer months when pets are swimming, getting wet, wearing harnesses, and spending more time outdoors.
The earlier matting is addressed, the easier and more comfortable it is for your pet.
That’s why our goal is always to help pet parents recognize matting early and provide the education and tools needed to prevent it from becoming a bigger problem.
Our Goal
Our goal is always to keep your pets healthy, comfortable, and feeling their best.
